“Disease is not our enemy — it is a messenger. It signals that something within us has been neglected, and if we listen to its wisdom, we can transform our health and align with our soul's purpose.”
Marcela Llerena
Illness is often misunderstood. Illness isn’t just physical — it begins in the mind and soul. We rush to treat symptoms, but what if we paused and asked: What is my body trying to tell me? Every disease carries a deeper message, showing us where we are out of alignment with our true selves.
Negative emotions like fear, resentment, guilt, and judgment create energy blockages that affect our organs and weaken our immune system. Instead of seeing disease as an enemy, what if we saw it as a wake-up call from our soul? By listening deeply, we transform illness from an obstacle into a guide.
The word “disease” originates from the Latin enfermare, meaning “to be still, stagnant,” implying accumulation. Breaking it down further, dis means “different,” and ease means “to be relaxed,” suggesting an uncomfortable process rather than simply the opposite of health. Disease occurs when energy accumulates and becomes stuck.
Illness is not inherently negative. Rather, what led to the disease — the unresolved conflicts, stagnant energy, and misalignment with our purpose — is what needs attention. Disease is not the enemy; it’s an adaptation mechanism, a signpost guiding us toward healing. Instead of seeing it as a setback, we can reframe disease as the body’s way of leading us toward balance.
From an esoteric perspective, there are three main types of disease:
1. Diseases Created from Within
2. Diseases Caused by External Organisms
3. Destiny Diseases
Each type carries different messages, but ultimately, they all serve as indicators that something within us needs to shift.
The conventional medical model, based on Democritus’ belief in materialism and atoms, assumes that our genes control our biology. It treats the body as a biochemical machine programmed by DNA. However, Quantum Physics — pioneered by Niels Bohr, Max Planck, and Albert Einstein — suggests that everything in the universe is energy, and that energy, not genes, is the governing force behind our physical reality.
Our minds and consciousness dictate the biochemical reactions in our bodies. Genetics, rather than being a predetermined fate, is merely information — a blueprint. Whether that information is activated depends on the mind. Just as an architect interprets blueprints to construct a building, our thoughts and emotions determine which genetic potentials become reality.
For example, if your great-grandfather had a disease, you may carry genetic information related to it. But that doesn’t mean you are destined to suffer from the same condition. If you make different choices, both physically and emotionally, you can prevent the disease from manifesting.
From this perspective, conventional science falls short because it studies isolated parts rather than the whole. But the new paradigm of energy-based medicine recognizes that our health is shaped by our relationships, environment, mindset, and even our spiritual alignment.
According to Kabbalah, suffering arises when the lower ego (the survival mind) contradicts the soul’s purpose. Illness manifests when we deviate from our soul’s path. We live in a psychosomatic reality where physical symptoms and accidents act as the soul’s way of communicating with us.
As Edward Bach once said, “Health depends on being in harmony with our souls.”
We each have a higher self that understands our life’s mission. If we stray from our purpose, our higher self sends messages to realign us. At first, these messages may be subtle — an intuitive feeling, a song lyric that resonates, or even an unexpected conversation. If ignored, the signals intensify: financial struggles, relationship issues, or minor health problems. If we continue to overlook them, they escalate into major illnesses, serving as an urgent wake-up call.
Kabbalah describes this process in four stages of pain:
1. Gentle nudges — Inspiration through a book, a podcast, or a conversation.
2. Stronger signals — Small setbacks like parking tickets or financial difficulties.
3. Physical symptoms — Illness or chronic pain, signaling a deeper issue.
4. Major health crises or death — If the messages remain unheeded, the body’s final attempt to force change.
Thus, disease is not random; it is a necessary correction guiding us back to our path.
In the universe, three fundamental principles exist:
1. Matter
2. Consciousness
3. Energy as the bridge between the two
Every shift in consciousness generates an energetic ripple that influences the material world. When we elevate our consciousness, we improve our health. When we dwell in negative emotions, we create disharmony.
Buddhists refer to lingering thought-forms as “scanda,” Hindus call them “karma,” and Kabbalah describes them as “angels.” These thought-forms accumulate in our aura, shaping our perception and interactions. If we constantly project negativity, we attract negative experiences, further reinforcing the cycle.
However, we can break free by becoming more conscious of our thoughts and emotions. When we cultivate positive thought-forms, we naturally align with better health and harmonious relationships.
Einstein stated, “The field is the sole governing agency of the particle,” meaning that the invisible energy field dictates the physical form. In other words, what you think and believe shapes your body. This idea serves as the foundation for hands-on healing and energy medicine, which have been practiced for thousands of years.
Our bodies store historical information from past lives and ancestral experiences. Some illnesses stem from unresolved traumas, influencing our character and habits. Even before birth, environmental factors shape our susceptibility to disease.
For instance, cardiovascular disease, cancer, obesity, and diabetes often trace their origins to patterns established during conception and fetal development. While we may inherit predispositions, we have the power to rewrite our story by shifting our consciousness and making healthier choices.
Additionally, any illness a child experiences before age 12 (for girls) and age 13 (for boys) often serves as a karmic correction for their parents. In cases of terminal illness at a young age, the child may be a highly evolved soul volunteering to elevate their family’s spiritual growth.
All disease is a result of trapped emotions. Energy must flow. When emotions become stagnant, they manifest physically. Chronic illness indicates a chronic emotional or energetic blockage.
Ask yourself:
Are you holding onto resentment toward a family member?
Have you been unwilling to forgive someone?
Is there an emotional wound you haven’t fully processed?
Edgar Cayce explained that the emotional and etheric bodies connect directly to the endocrine system. Our chakras regulate prana (life force energy) and influence our organs. If an energy center is blocked due to unresolved emotions, it disrupts hormone production, affecting physical health.
For example, a blocked root chakra can lead to weight issues, hair thinning, or skin problems. Arguments, unprocessed trauma, and unresolved guilt create hormonal imbalances, sometimes resulting in severe conditions like cancer.
Disease is not our enemy — it is a messenger. It signals that something within us has been neglected. If we listen to its wisdom, we can transform our health, align with our soul’s purpose, and experience true healing.
The key to wellness is recognizing that our thoughts, emotions, and beliefs shape our physical reality. Healing begins when we stop fighting the disease and start understanding its message.
At its core, every illness carries an invitation: to release trauma, shift perspective, or realign with our true path. The four primary messages of disease are:
Gratitude — Appreciate and honor your body.
Joy & Pleasure — Allow more playfulness and enjoyment into your life.
Love & Connection — Open your heart, express emotions, and let go of judgment.
Authenticity — Stay true to yourself, trust your intuition, and embrace who you are.
The path to healing isn’t about eradicating disease — it’s about aligning with its deeper message. When we cultivate gratitude, joy, love, and authenticity, we not only recover — we evolve. True health isn’t just physical; it’s emotional, spiritual, and energetic. Understanding this allows us to move through life with greater harmony and empowerment.
Healing begins with realigning our thoughts, emotions, and energy. When we live in harmony with our soul’s purpose, disease has no reason to manifest. But what about illnesses caused by external organisms like viruses and bacteria? In Part 2, we explore why these are not truly “infections” but invitations for transformation.
